Nigel's Bath Tub Tale
Several months ago, my husband Mike and I took a weekend trip to
Florida for the wedding of a dear friend. I had another dear friend, Kathy
stay with Nigel and Divot while we were gone.
The background to the actual story isn't so cute but it will help to explain
Nigel's actions...
Several weeks prior to our planned trip, Kathy was bitten by a cousin's
JRT. 14 stitches and a LOT of heavy duty antibiotics later she wasn't feeling
too well. She had terrible reactions to the antibiotics and one of the many
reactions was an itchy rash. A baking soda bath seemed to soothe her skin
(she later found out that was a no-no!) but her bathtub isn't deep enough
for a good long soak. My tub is, so I told her to come over and have a soak
in my tub. Nigel loves to lay next to the tub, (especially when the jets are on)
and he loves Kathy too, so the day she came over for a soak, he was more
than happy to curl up next to the tub and snooze, keeping her company.
So, that's the background of the story. Now here's the cute part. Kathy
arrived shortly after we had left that Friday morning, and was happily greeted
by both Nigel and Divot. She said that after a normal robust greeting, Nigel
then ran upstairs immediately. She called him to come down, but he didn't.
She looked up the stairs and there he was, standing at the top on the landing
looking down at her. She called him to come back but he kept looking at her
and then back toward my bedroom. She finally went upstairs to see what he
was trying to tell her and he walked her right to the bathtub and sat down,
looking up at her. It took her a moment to realize what he was doing. It was
as if he was saying, "Are we going to take a bath again?!" She burst out
laughing and told him no, that she wasn't here to take a bath. That seemed
to satisfy him and he came back downstairs with her.
