Just Lift Any Leg

Prior to the time when we had Nigel neutered, he didn't really display any tendencies to lift his leg on anything. But when he was around 7 or 8 months old he began to act like he knew instinctively that he was supposed to be doing "something" when he went potty. As time went on, the behavior got more pronounced and he seemed to be understanding that he "should lift his leg" and he began to do it often -- wobbly but he did it most times. One day we were leaving for a walk and, as always, he had to stop by our mailbox to try to mark it. So, he walked up to the mailbox and squatted and then it was as if he remembered "oh I forgot to lift my leg!" The funny thing was that he lifted the front leg! We laughed so hard and he just looked up so innocently like "what?" That one will be hard to forget.
