Friends of Nigel and Divot

Nigel is an amazingly friendly dog. When we got him, we had just moved into a new house in a new neighborhood and brought him home 3 days later! It was a very hot summer and so I didn't do much walking with Nigel around the neighborhood because of the heat and he was still quite young. So, the next spring we were regularly walking in the neighborhood and he discovered all the kids who lived there. He loves people, especially kids and he knows which houses have the people who pay attention to him and as we walk by he stops to get a good look to see if anyone is out in the yard who may want to pet him. He scans the yard, the windows, the garage -- everywhere. Most everyone in the neighborhood knows Nigel and it's not unusual for us to walk and have kids come running out to the street every couple of houses, shouting "It's Nigel!!!" He gives kisses to anyone who comes out and no one is a stranger to him. One day we were walking and someone (an adult) shouted from their window "Hi Nigel!" We still don't know which house the voice came from! Last year we brought Divot home. She was 3 years old when we adopted her. Right away she joined the family walks and at first she seemed a bit hesitant at all the attention from the kids, but after watching Nigel and seeing that they were to be considered friends, she gets right in there for the attention they give. There is something so special about these dogs. They have a natural love for people, and they are so cute that everyone is attracted to them. They're small enough not to cause anyone to be afraid, and they are sturdy enough not to be afraid of people. So, thanks to our Norwich, we have had the opportunity to meet most of our neighbors. I know they know my dog's names but I'm not so sure they remember ours!
