Dog And Butterfly

One sunny afternoon in the early fall of 1998, I was out doing some yard work and I had Nigel with me. He was about 6 or 7 months old at the time. I was working on the side of the front yard which wasn't fenced so I had him on one of those skates with a cable on it. He was having fun exploring the rocks in the retaining wall and the woods too. I had forgotten to get a few small tools out of the garage so I went to retrieve them and as I was walking toward the garage, I noticed a beautiful butterfly as it floated by and I remember thinking that I hadn't ever seen a butterfly around that late in the year. I said "Hello there. What are you doing around here so late in the year?" I got the tools I needed out of the garage and I came back to where I had left Nigel, I looked down at my sweet puppy sitting there; I realized he'd seen the butterfly too. I could see it's wings were hanging out of his mouth! As I approached him I thought "oh no!" but his whole body was wagging with excitement, obviously very pleased with his find.
