Ballad of Divot The Brave
(and the Bump on the Toe)

Written for Divot as encouragement before her foot surgery

While admiring Divot's form one day
Barb found a bump on her toe.
She knew it didn't belong there,
And said: "Off to the vet we go!"

Our Divot is a hardy dog -
Her heart is brave and warm;
She takes every bump in perfect stride
And bounces right back to form.

The vet said "Off with the bump, my dear!"
And Divot woofed "Yes, you're right."
Barb thought "This could be bad, I fear..."
But Divot knows how to fight.

Our Divot is a hardy dog -
Her heart is brave and true;
The things that might worry you or me
She knows are easy to do.

The weekend was long with waiting
Then: time for that lump to leave.
Barb said, "I wish it could be me!"
Divvie winked: "Mom, just believe.

Our Divot is a hardy dog -
With the greatest of hearts;
She'll trounce any foe (even bump of toe),
With her grace and style and smarts.

The vet, Barb, and Divvie did the job;
That old bump is vanquished now.
Div came through as she always does,
With flying colors - and how!

Our Divot is a hardy dog -
Her heart is brave and strong;
She wins the day, and then laughs to say
"Yep, I knew it all along!"
